Time to get away

Holidays in Norfolk Designed for Your Kids

Holiday time is always interesting when you have children, especially younger ones who tend to be easily bored. The key to an enjoyable trip with children is to involve them in some things that interest them, rather than just what interests you. If you're planning to take your holidays in Norfolk, there is no shortage of activities that will engage your children and put a smile on their face.

Beginning in Great Yarmouth, the Sea Life Centre is a wonderful destination that is both educational and entertaining. The centre features over 480,000 litres of water habitats teeming with hundreds of species. Fifty aquatic displays are divided into eight themed zones for easy navigation.

The Sea Life Centre's most amazing attraction may very well be the underwater tunnel running through the 250,000 litre “ocean”. Visitors can experience what life at sea is like for the Humbolt Penguin, or observe the centre's sharks being trained. There's even an interactive pool where the kids can reach out and touch a crab or starfish.

Also in Great Yarmouth is Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park. This 50-acre park is more than 25 years old and the region's biggest and most popular theme park. Thrill rides like Wipeout and Enigma stand side-by-side with family rides like Tales of the Coast and Le Mans. And of course, there's the Circus, Sea Lion, and Parrot shows. All in all, Pleasurewood Hills makes for a great day for the whole family.

If your holidays in Norfolk need a little bit of jungle adventure, look no further than Hoveton and Wroxham. There you'll find a most unusual amusement park called BeWILDerwood. This magical adventure land was featured in the children's book “A Boggle at BeWILDerwood”, by Tom Blofeld, and offers a forest filled with treehouses, zip lines, boat trips, jungle bridges, and so much more. Be sure to get some rest before you visit BeWILDerwood, you're going to need it.

South of Great Yarmouth lays a little slice of Africa at Lowestoft's Africa Alive African Animal Adventure. Africa Alive is a safari park voted the best large attraction by the Sunrise Coast Tourist Awards in 2008 and 2009. The park features safari tours for an up-close-and-personal experience with African greats like the zebra, giraffe, hippo, lion, and lemur. A special kid's zone offers games, crafts, activities, and shows aimed at the younger ones in your group; the Discovery Centre provides a hands-on learning experience for the older ones.

These are just a few of the family attractions waiting for you on your holidays to Norfolk. Be sure to ask a travel agent what else is out there, or be adventurous and look for yourself. Either way, there's plenty to do.
